The Huddersfield Creative Arts Network

The Huddersfield Creative Arts Network
Welcome to the first blogg devoted to the progression of the 'H' installation project. Huddersfield Creative Arts Network (HCAN) is a network of creative arts organizations and individuals dedicated to the regeneration to Huddersfield and its surrounding area, through the creative arts; we are non profit and volunteer led.

The ‘H’ Installation Project
The ‘H’ installation project, like Hcan, aims to improve the image of Huddersfield through the usage of the creative arts. The ‘H’ project will look to provide a number of installations at key points around town. The Hcan logo responds to the letter ‘H’ by incorporating one of Huddersfield’s Historic landmarks, Jubilee tower into its design. A range of individual ‘H’ installations will provide residents and visitors and residents with a highly visible (and also practical) exhibition of the talent in our community.
The project takes much inspiration from installations globally, the closest to home being Liverpool’s Superlambbanana project. The first step, I propose is to work with the university of Huddersfield to create the first sculpture on campus, as a pivotal point for both the project and the community.  It is to be the first in a series of installations some permanent and some changeable.
The concept
I feel that the furthering of our concept through local community groups and schools has been highly productive, as a community artist I appreciate the input that these local groups have in terms of both creativity and their individual ideas. It is also important that the local people of Huddersfield have their input into what artwork they would like to see in their area.
Once the first installation is complete, the local groups I have been working with will construct their own makeshift ‘H’ that will be rolled out and displayed all over Huddersfield.
I have used the design of Jubilee tower as the landmark is recognized all over West Yorkshire and can be seen from many points in Huddersfield. The material it will be crafted from will be local Huddersfield stone, there are also opportunities to use recycled stone.
The project ensures that the arts are for everyone and group can have their say and expression on what makes Huddersfield a creative town, it promotes dialogue between creative arts organizations and the property management sector.
This project promotes both the image of Huddersfield and the arts that take place within it, thus fulfilling the aims of Hcan and promoting the regeneration of Huddersfield town.

I hope you enjoy watching the progress of this project as I have participating!
